Envision 2020

Dear Leaders,

Over the last two decades, globalization has produced many changes – some change very subtle, and some changes more visible. Today, we are just a few months from entering a new decade that will bring even more change, and with change comes uncertainty. However, many scholars, prophets, and futurist believe that this next decade will bring tremendous opportunity for the church to advance the Kingdom.

As we enter into the last Fall of this decade (2019), and we face a new decade (2020), below are three principles of serving Christ and being on mission with Him that will never change:

1. We are called to be a BLESSING to ALL the families on Earth!

As part of Abrams call in Genesis 12, God made several promises. Those promises include:
a. He promised that He would lead Abram
“To the land that I will show you” (Gen 12:1b, NASB).

b. He promised He would bless Abram and make his name great.
“And I will make you a great nation, And I will bless you, and make your name great” (Gen 12:2).

c. He promised he would protect Abram.
“And I will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you” (Gen 12:3)
Amid such wonderful promise, Abram was called to “GO” (v. 1) and to “bless” all the families of the Earth (v. 3).

As we enter 2020, be assured of His promises, and embrace the call to be a blessing to the families of the Earth (your city, state, neighborhood, the world).

2. We are called to be a beacon of HOPE!

We live in a world that is looking for hope. In every classroom, workplace, and home, people long for the hope that only Christ can give.

In Zechariah 9:12 scripture says, “Return to the stronghold, O prisoners who have the hope; This very day, I am declaring that I will restore double to you.”

In a day when everything seems to change quickly, what will never change is that people are looking for HOPE and that Christ is the answer for the hopeless.

3. We are called to “speak the truth in LOVE.”

This generation has coined the phrase “fake news.” However, it is the truth that makes us free! Scripture points out that God wants His Church to speak the truth. He also cares about the way and the motive by which His Church speaks the truth.

In Ephesians, Paul writes, “but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ” (Eph. 4:11).

There is a great need for truth spoken in a way that people will listen, receive the message, and be set free. Love must be the motive and the method for speaking the truth. This principle will never change!

No matter what changes, these truths are eternal, and they WORK. Today, there are some many seeking strategies for a new generation. However, in our seeking new approaches, always remember that these Biblical strategies will still work.

So, Heartland Leaders, GO, be a blessing, live as a beacon of HOPE, and speak the TRUTH in LOVE.

You are loved!
